Solid Surface Driveway: Case Study

Preparing the ground - Getting Started

We’ve had a busy February working on a new drive project in Buckhorn Weston in Dorset.

The client specification was for their existing gravel drive to be replaced with a solid surfaced drive but with the same look as gravel. It also had to comply with SUDs regulations, which requires home owners to ensure any driveway replacement is permeable to water so not creating unnecessary water runoff – for some helpful information on drive regulations, take a look at the RHS link - https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=878

Preparing the ground is key to laying a good surface and using specialist advice for the next step is equally important. In order to do this, we engaged a local tarmac surface specialist, Kingsmere Surfacing Ltd: http://www.kingsmeresurfacing.co.uk/

Kingsmere were able to provide us with a suitable solution: using open textured tarmac with a resin bound surface in a colour to match the existing gravel.

We then got to grips with installing the compacted base, service conduits, replacement man hole covers and new kerb edges using locally quarried Forest Marble stone from Stalbridge quarries: https://www.stalbridge-quarries.co.uk/

I can’t wait to see the finished surface applied in a few weeks – watch this space!
